Reaching out to share good news

Our team meetings always start with good news. It’s our favorite ritual, and today we’re bringing it to you as we kick off a very special month.

Things have been moving so quickly that we hardly know where to start. Our CEO, Marcos Marín, will speak right after Axios CEO Jim VandeHei’s keynote at this week’s Local News Camp in North Carolina. Shortly after, our Founder and Chairman, Javier Marín, will lead a conversation on media and democracy at the Harvard Club of Boston. One especially meaningful milestone: “Lo Nuestro,” our new editorial series celebrating Latino businesses, is now open for sponsorship. In Massachusetts, El Planeta launched a voter guide for the upcoming elections through a first-time partnership. And we’re expanding El Tiempo Latino’s operation to Baltimore.

01/05Durham, N.C. / Oct. 15

We’ll be at Blue Engine Collaborative’s Local News Camp in Durham, N.C. for an “AI in Practice” conversation right after Axios CEO Jim VandeHei’s keynote.

AI runs across our operations as an efficiency tool for project management, data analysis and sharing, targeting and finance processes, resulting in faster structured delivery. Marcos Marín, our CEO and Editor-in-Chief, will walk through how we rebuilt around it, right after Axios CEO Jim VandeHei’s keynote at Blue Engine Collaborative’s Local News Camp. He’ll share the stage with Daniel Codega of Work & Co, and Dalmy Carrera-Colucci of Blue Engine Collaborative will moderate.

02/05Boston / Oct. 21

“America Speaks Spanish?”: a discussion on media, identity and democracy at the Harvard Club of Boston.

Hosted by El Planeta, Conexión and the Harvard Club of Boston. We’ve been working on this for months and we’re so excited we can finally invite you to join, registration is now open (space is limited!).
Taking part in this conversation:

After almost a year of work: a love letter to Latino entrepreneurship.

This might be the news closest to our hearts. This is the kind of work we know we do well, and it brings tremendous value to the community. “Lo Nuestro” is a video series in which El Tiempo Latino walks into Latino-owned businesses in D.C., Maryland and Virginia and asks the owners to tell their story. How they started. What keeps them going. Episodes run on Instagram and Facebook in Spanish, reaching the community these businesses serve.

It is the most emotionally resonant content we make. Viewers recognize the places, congratulate the owners by name, tag their families, and show up to buy, all before a single dollar of paid promotion.

And it’s open for sponsorships starting this fall for brands looking to connect with small businesses and entrepreneurs in the Latino community. We’d love to discuss sponsorship in whatever format and at whatever time works best for you.

04/05Massachusetts

A first-of-its-kind partnership for a bilingual voter guide.

This November, Massachusetts voters will decide on nine ballot questions. El Planeta, The Bay State Banner newspaper and CommonWealth Beacon, with support from The Boston Foundation, published a voter guide covering all nine.

The guide is available in Spanish at El Planeta and offers a clear, nonpartisan explanation of each ballot question, including what it proposes and what a “yes” or “no” vote would mean.

And of course, reach out if you’d like to partner with us on similar educational initiatives like this.

05/05Baltimore, MD

Last but not least: El Tiempo Latino is expanding to Baltimore.

After 35 years (and counting) of El Tiempo Latino leading the Latino news coverage in the DMV area, October is the month we start coverage, production and business focused in Baltimore. Beginning this fall, Baltimore’s Latino community will have access to daily local news that reflects their lives and is delivered in their language.

We are so excited that Baltimore is the first new market to come out of El Tiempo Latino’s selection for the 2026 Google News Initiative Growth Catalyst cohort, one of 12 newsrooms chosen from 162 applicants, with support from Blue Engine Collaborative.

You could be part of it: We are looking for the first partners to make the first year happen. If any thoughts come to mind, write directly to our team, or simply reply to this email.
